Setting Up External Video Switcher to Work With Multiple UltraNEXUS-HD Series Video Servers
Date Created:
Learn how to set up your UltraNEXUS-HD or BLADE server to share the control and use of a video routing switcher.
1. Setup communication connections between UltraNEXUS-HD and Switcher
---a. If by serial cable – connect serial cable to COM1 port of the first UltraNEXUS-HD. (front)
------i. The other UltraNEXUS-HD/Blade units will communicate with the switcher by the network through the first UltraNEXUS-HD unit’s Com1 port.
------ii. This is done by setting the additional UltraNEXUS-HD/Blade unit’s Shared switch IP address to the IP address of the first UltraNEXUS-HD/Blades IP address. From the front panel or the web interface system settings page.
---b. If by network control – set Shared Switch IP address in all UltraNEXUS-HD/Blade units to the IP address of the switcher.
------i. From the front panel or Web interface/system page.
2. Set Server name – Tools/Controller – Site Name.
3. Create a new schedule image – You’ll need to create a schedule file for each UltraNEXUS-HD/Blade unit - Open a new schedule
---a. Or “Open as New” to preserve library resources
---b. Cannot have anything scheduled to be able to change input/output settings
4. Under System Configuration/Switch (These steps are the same for each unit)
---a. Set Switch type to the desired protocol
---b. Set levels to 1 in most cases (if audio is separate set to 3)
---c. Set Status rate to 2 in most cases – 5 for BMD.
---d. Set INPUT settings
------i. Under First set to 1
------ii. Under Last set to the size of switcher – if 12 inputs, set last to 12.
------iii. Labels
---e. Set OUTPUT settings
------i. Under First set to 1
------ii. Under Last set to the size of switcher – if 12 outputs, set last to 12.
------iii. Labels
------iv. Switchback input setting for programming output
---------1. In most cases set to Virtual Channel
---------2. Programming output is the output that this UltraNEXUS-HD is scheduling for and goes from the Switcher to your channel – its modulator/encoder or transmitter.
---f. Set Channel settings (this step will be different/unique for each unit)
------i. The top tab/channel needs to be the programming output
------ii. Clear it from the current channel
------iii. Set Channel 1 to programming output
------iv. Disable the visibility of unused channels.
5. Under Devices folder
---a. Select the Video Player icon (Different for each UltraNEXUS-HD/Blade)
------i. Set INPUT to the input on the switcher that is connected to the SDI output of the UltraNEXUS-HD.
------ii. Set Assigned Channel to the output of the Switcher that goes to your cable channel or encoder/modulator – your programming output.
---b. Select the Video Recorder icon (Different for each UltraNEXUS-HD/Blade)
------i. Set Record Channel to the output of the switch that is connected to the SDI input of the UltraNEXUS-HD.
---c. Create desired Switch Resources
------i. To be able to schedule other signals connected to inputs on the switcher
---------1. Such as studio cameras or a satellite signal feed
---------2. Right-click in the Resource View window and select NEW/Switch
------------a. Set it’s input to the input on the switch that is feed by the video signal
------------b. Repeat this for any other inputs that would need to be scheduled
6. Save the schedule and then send it to the UltraNEXUS-HD unit.
7. Test communication between the UltraNEXUS-HD and the switcher.
---a. Open the Control Panel (Tools/Control Panel)
---b. Select an output in the output table, then select an input in the input column on the right.
---c. Click the TAKE button above the input column. If the output "Current Input" column switches to that input then it's communicating.
---d. You can also check for the "COMM GOOD" message in the web interface Dashboard (Tools/Web interface).
